Estimate with the last similar job. Start from a previous job that resembles this one, not from a template you saw somewhere else.

Then look up what it took before you name a number. If the step needs another person, write their name. "Someone" does not do the step.
The habit to drop
The slip is a number said from confidence alone. Correct the record the same day.
You can stop when the estimate points at a past job or says it does not. A finished note is short enough to read standing at the counter.
